Pick one of your favorite characters from history. It could be Catherine the Great. It could be Charles Dickens. It could be Mother Theresa. Anyone. Write about what would happen if they decided that they wanted a career change. What could possibly prompt this sudden change of heart? If they were a ruler, how would they go about appointing a successor? How would they disappear from the public eye?
Example: Edgar Allan Poe gives up writing to become a mortician in Baltimore.
